The Divine Grandmother is the elder feminine aspect available to us in all things, internally and externally. We see her in the willow and ash trees, the ocean, the earth and in the kitchen and by the hearth. We feel her wise knowing and her loving embrace. We feel her ability to hold so much at once as true - allowing us to rest and be. The Divine Grandmother is in a season of wisdom and of creativity, she kindles the energy of nourishment as well as play in us.

We might call upon the Divine Grandmother when we need direction, when we need to remember who we are and that we are children of the earth, when we wish for someone to hold us through our tears and connect to the beauty of the natural world with. We might call on the Divine Grandmother when we are moving through milestones and transitions that require ceremony and witnessing. We might call on the Divine Grandmother to model the leadership qualities of the wise feminine elder, the grace of ageing and the levity of being.

How to work with this archetype:

Place her on your altar, this signals to the Divine Grandmother internally and externally that she is being called in.

Make a commitment to her, to this space within you and to the experience of her outwardly, it's ok if you forget a day or a week. Just like when you meditate and thoughts come in – as soon as you notice them try to come back to stillness. If you fall off the wagon of your commitment, as soon as you notice; just hop right back in.

Some commitment suggestions:

  • Light a candle each day and call upon the Divine Grandmother

  • Bring offerings each week for her on your altar

  • Take a bath / footpath or get into natural water on the full moon and feel her embrace

  • Create or engage in a series of rituals to mark the coming of the seasons in nature and in your life

  • Take care of all beings, commit to a certain number of acts of gratitude which do not need recompense and do not deplete you

  • Find a tree that embodies this energy, bring it offerings and make a relationship with it
